Who will be there for you...in your time of need?

We all love to feel like we can do everything without the help of anyone. Truth is, we all need help sometimes in our lives, whether we care to admit it or not. That is never more true than today. With the economy still sputtering and millions without jobs, no roof over their heads or no food on the table, a helping hand is very much a welcome thing.
Thurston Memorial Outreach Inc (a ministry of The Bushwick Family Ministries) was organized to enhance the quality of life for the residents of the Bushwick and Bedford-Stuyvesant sections of Brooklyn, New York, through education, advocacy and empowerment.
In April of 1998, we saw the need in our community and started a soup kitchen. In 2000, we were able to add a pantry for those who came to us. We serve a multicultural area in the Bushwick and Bedford-Stuyvesant sections of Brooklyn New York, which consists of African Americans, Hispanics, Asians, and Whites. Some of those who come to us are alcoholics, recovering alcoholics, drug addicts, single parents, family groups, and the homeless.
We have additional community outreach by offering through our Thurston Memorial Center. We distribute clothing to those that have a need and dispense information in regards to Voter Registration, food stamps and W.I.C. We have representatives from Neighborhood Health Providers, which offer Child Health Plus, Family Health Plus, and Medicaid Insurance. Through these plans the needy are able to get free or low cost Health Care. We also have representatives from Kress Vision to come in to offer free eye exams.
Our hours of operation are every Friday evening from 5:00 to 7:30, for both our soup kitchen and pantry.
Thurston Memorial Outreach Ministries has been serving the Bushwick and Bedford Stuyvesant sections of Brooklyn, New York for over fifteen years. Please partner with us!
